Leaving the electronics aside, the jackets are not ordinary, their construction is very complex.
KER Machina’s first open-source hardware platform designed for the apparel industry. KER is a dream all-in-one microcontroller that centralizes a range of functionalities commonly used by wearable technology devices. As such, it offers an HDMI connection to an ITC unit to which you can solder any kind of devices supported by the Arduino platform. Plug any I2C sleeves, pants, props, or wind sensors, LED bars, switches, panels -you name it- and start coding right away.
We want integration to be complete seamless, and that's why we're working so hard in making sure that, while the sensors are there, they do not affect the look and feel of the jacket.
We work with industrial grade materials which are commonly used for other purposes (boat sails, camping tents, military uniforms, nuclear suits), they are completely waterproof with our unique cable embedded system.
This jacket is the first of its kind, all their electronics are programmed to be a new kind of MIDI controller. Measure your punches, or your slugger swing. If you are a geek, like some of us, go wild using it to remote control vehicles and even drones wirelessly! It’s Arduino based, so people know how to hack it. Code has been designed to easily so you can use programming libraries and design a whole load of new applications.
All of these sensors and buttons can be configured by the user using the MIDI Jacket iOS app and is Virtual MIDI compatible. Be creative to design your own configuration. Download MIDI Jacket app
Using bluetooth communication is wireless. The MIDI Jacket is designed to be mobile so you can create music everywhere in the subway, streets, rooftops, in your car, literally everywhere. Download MIDI Jacket app

As you begin to use your jacket, you're going to notice that certain parts of the jacket are not permanent. Mostly, anything that displays branding on the exterior. As a design-based team, we've been taught that branding (mostly, adding logos and symbols to your clothing) are crucial to a successful business. But something's not quite right with paying for a jacket that you like and having to promote the brand indirectly. In addition to that, branding makes us forget that a company is just an abstract entity, and that there's people behind the company. It turns companies into faceless corporations. That's why all of the branding on our jacket will fall off with time: the code on the sleeve, the logo on the chest, the symbols on the rest of the jacket. It was an intentional part of our design, so that each time a letter falls off, you'll be reminded that there are people behind every one of our products.
